Robin Hood is a 2010 movie based on the story of the legendary thief with a heart Robin Hood. It stars the Oscars winner Russell Crow playing as Robin Longstride also known in the legend as the Robin Hood and directed by Ridley Scott. This film is set to be released this May 14, 2010. Other casts are Cate Blanchett, Matthew Macfadyen, Mark Strong, Oscar Isaac, Kevin Durand, Mark Addy, William Hurt, Danny Huston and Max von Sydow.

It is late 12th century England and Sir Robin Longstride, Earl of Huntington, (Russell Crowe) has returned to his northern English village after fighting in the Third Crusade. Upon arrival, the nobleman and his servant discover the oppression caused by the new Sheriff of Nottingham (Matthew Macfadyen). Sir Robin uses his intelligence and military skills to free his home village from tyranny and corruption in England, by taking back what is rightfully his, and by taking back what rightfully is theirs, to restore justice and happiness to England. Robin must also win the affection of the recently widowed Lady Marian (Cate Blanchett) while leading his Merry Men of Sherwood Forest to victory and fairness.

As the traditional legend shows, the movie features the heroism of the legend and how he brought victory and freedom to his people.

The comedy film Date Night that stars Steve Carell and Tina Fey hits the top of box office earning $27.1 million to beat down the Greek mythology film remake Clash of the Titans on the weekend box office. The Shawn Levy movie which premiered in 3,374 theaters earned $8,032 per theater for a opening weekend gross of around $27.1 million, just about half of it’s purported $55 million production budget.

Clash of the Titans (2010) made it to the top on the weekend box office with an impressive earning of $61.4 million.

The Greek mythology film that stars Sam Worthington as half-god – half human Perseus and actors Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes as the Gods Zeus and Hades was shown in more than three thousand theaters and made $16,256 per theater making an earning that is more than the production cost in just the weekend opening.

Weekend box office was very interesting specially when the animated 3D film “How to Train Your Dragon” fight back to top the weekend box office. By earning $20 million on its 4th week sales, it managed to go back to top after falling on the 4th on the previous week. The film features the voices of Gerard Butler, Jay Baruchel, America Ferrera, Craig Ferguson, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Jonah Hill and Kristen Wiig.

On the other hand, Kick-Ass just managed to earn around $6,444 in each of the 3,065 theaters that it was shown in for a total of about $19.7 million to post its position at rank number 2.

Showing this week (April 23 to be exact) is “The Back-up Plan” by Jennifer Lopez and Alex O’Loughlin. It is a comedy film that explores dating, love, marriage and family “in reverse.” In Reverse, what? Well the story revolves with Zoe (Jennifer Lopez) realizing that waiting for the right one is taking too long. This is the reason why the stage of the love story of the film is in reverse. Because everything begins when Zoe and Stan got a baby first then goes to dating after wards. Friendship, motherhood, relationship and errors committed by Zoe and confusing signals for Stan creates a funny and fall in love story for every couple that will watch this film.

Its previously reported that the film “How to train your dragon” fights back to the top of the weekend box office after its fourth week release (read here for details). But the figures specified on the top weekend box office was just an estimate and when official earnings came in, its Kick-Ass movie that really made it to number one.

Lionsgate, the leading next generation studio, emerged from a neck-and-neck box office race to claim the #1 spot with its action/comedy Kick-Ass. Director Matthew Vaughn’s critically lauded, R-rated film took in $19,828,687 for the weekend, edging past the 3D animated family feature How to Train Your Dragon. The latest release in Lionsgate’s Tyler Perry franchise, Why Did I Get Married Too?, reached $54.8 million in its third week in release. Lionsgate secured over 6,500 screens this past weekend, representing 16% of the North American marketplace.

Based on the groundbreaking, best-selling comic by Mark Millar and John Romita Jr., Kick-Ass stars Aaron Johnson, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Mark Strong and Chloe Moretz, and features Nicolas Cage. The screenplay is written by Vaughn and Jane Goldman. The producers are Matthew Vaughn, Brad Pitt, Tarquin Pack and Kris Thykier; Millar and Romita Jr. are co-producers. Lionsgate acquired North American distribution rights for $15 million last year.
